Generic Zyrtec Just As Good As The Original By Chocollette on - Updated Sep 18, 2011
For over five years, my 10 year old son has taken Zyrtec since he has indoor and outdoor allergies. Now that you can purchase Zyrtec over the counter, I am going to try different generic brands on him to see which one tastes the closest to the original Zyrtec.
I purchased the CVS brand for my son and found out that I cannot get anything past him! He quickly scrunched up his nose because he did notice that there is a slight difference in taste. Now that he has taken this for a few weeks, he has gotten used to this particular grape flavor.
Depending on how badly his allergies are, my son (Zachary) takes one teaspoon a day and when his allergies do act up, we increase it to two teaspoons. This has really been a lifesaver to him because it has kept his runny nose and sneezing at bay. He has not experienced any side effects (drowsiness is one of them).
At a later date, I will purchase and review Zyrtec over the counter and see how the two compare but for now, we will stick with the generic form of Zyrtec because it is just as effective.
Children's Allergy Relief (generic of Zyrtec) NDC 59779-974-26 Purchased at: CVS Price: $9.82

Funny...you can't fool kids! I hope he's used to this new flavor...it always pays to try and find generic brands. Who doesn't need to save money?
Why not stay with the generics? If they work, why bother paying full brand price? Most of my meds either OTC or prescription are generics and all of them really perform the same.
I agree with the liquid allergy meds. My son hates to take them so we switched to a nasal spray prescription. Its only about 10.oo with copay and it lasts two months. Best of all, no bad taste.
Allergies suck! As a child I always got needles for my allergies two times a week then down to once a week for about 3 years. I would rather have taken something orally instead of getting a needle in my arm any day.
We have found the generic Zyrtec just as good too!
Glad your son is able to resume to his activities with his generic Zyrtec & keep money in your pockets.
some generics work just as well if not better.
Too funny, everybody loves to save money, good for you! ;)
