When I was looking for wedding cakes I went everywhere. I stumbled upon quite the unusual find. A grocery store that makes wedding cakes.
Giant Eagle offers wedding cakes in a variety of flavors. I sampled the almond cake and was impressed by how moist it was. It was light and fluffy and delicious.
They offer a lot of different cake designs just like the wedding cake specialtists. Their cakes were actually quite affordable compared to what I actually ended up paying.
The reason why I did not end up going with Giant Eagle is that I was not impressed with their frosting. It was very very sweet and I just could not stomach it.
Giant Eagle cakes are definately a must see if you are planning a wedding on a budget. Unfortunately if you are a frosting snob like I am it just will not work out.

Sounds like the frosting was a tradition buttercreme. This is usually the type of frosting a store like this would make and yes, it is very sweet.
I really dislike frosting to begin with, but this sounds overly sweet...no thanks! This is great information for those on a budget for the wedding. I think it is a hidden treasure.
I worked for Giant for 8 years and even thoughtwe sold Wedding cakes for one reason or another in the 8 years I was there, we never sold one.
I actually got my wedding cake from there and loved it but I love sweet icing it was very pretty and was very reasonable.

It sounds like this would be a great place to get a wedding cake if you were on a budget and couldn't afford to be a frosting 'snob' (lol). However, I find frosting to be one of the best parts of a cake, so I think I'd be picky about it too :)
I never thought of Giant Eagle for wedding cakes. They do make good cakes! Thanks for sharing your experience.
