Give your baby Sweet Dreams on this crib mattress
By dsnygrl onWe purchased the Safety 1st Sweet Dreams crib mattress 3 months ago from Wal-Mart for a rather unconventional use. First I will tell you a little bit about the mattress itself, then I will explain what we have been using it for.
We looked at several mattresses at different stores and picked this one because it was the firmest one we found at the best price. This mattress has a Thermo-bonded core and does not have springs inside like some mattresses do. We preferred the feel of the mattresses without springs over the ones that had them. It is non-allergenic, water resistant and has an anti-microbial sleeping surface. It has a plastic like cover on the top that you can wipe clean but it does not make noise when it is being laid on. It is designed to fit standard cribs and toddler beds and meets Federal Flammability requirements. It comes with a 7 year warranty so it should last a child from the time it is born until they move up to a big girl or boy bed.
Now, we did not purchase this for a human baby, we purchased it for a canine baby. Our dog Zeuss is a 125 pound Rhodesian Ridgeback. We have had him since March and he has had 3 doggie beds since then. The problem with most dog beds, even those built for big dogs is that they do not support his weight well and end up popping like a balloon when he plops down on them. One day when we were shopping for yet another replacement bed, I had the idea to try a crib mattress instead.
So far the mattress has held up better than any of the dog beds we have had before and for a much lower price than they were. It is larger than most of the dog beds that are available and it allows him to stretch out more. The thing we also like about the mattress over a regular dog bed is that it gives him more overall support and for a large breed dog, the better support they have, the healthier their bones and joints will be. When the bed is not in use, it slides under our bed so it is out of the way.
I know this review may not be geared towards how this crib mattress will hold up when being used by a child but Zeuss sleeps on his bed almost every day and so far, it has sustained no damage so if it can stand up to him, it should last for many years when being used by a baby or a small child.

Awe - Chopper's brother. I know he'd love him because he is a big doggie. For some reason, he isn't much interested in dogs his size. And I'd say if a dog that size could keep that mattress maintained, then a baby should have no problem at all!
What a lucky dog to have such a nice "mom and dad"!
Super idea!
What a great idea!
What a blessed dog! He looks happy!
Zeuss is a baby & I think it is a great idea too. Much more support for his doggie bones.
We had to get the dog a crib mattress also. They just don't make dog beds well, or big enough for our dog.
Wow, that's a really big dog but what a great idea.
