Glass Paperweight By RachelReviews on - Updated Sep 18, 2011

This gorgeous glass paperweight was owned by my mother for many years. I was always taken by its beauty. I loved the iridescent, glittering colors and the swirling piece in the center. I was enchanted by the way light danced through it. I also liked the air bubbles trapped in the glass.

Before a move, my mom was compelled to rid herself of unnecessary objects. She wanted to lighten her load by having a moving sale. This paperweight did not end up selling and she asked me if I wanted it. I was more than happy to take it off her hands.

When this baby is not holding down papers on my desk, I sometimes leave it on a window ledge to add beauty to the space.

I measured the width of the widest part of the paperweight, and it measured 3 inches across.

The paperweight is quite durable since it has lasted many years. It is made of thick, sturdy glass and is a heavy-weight. The bottom is tapered a bit and flat, so the paperweight does not roll around. I think the quality is quite good.

Some advice: Never put glass paperweights on any window ledge where direct sun can hit it. Glass paperweights are magnifiers and you could create a pin-point heat laser and start a fire. Direct sunlight could also cause the glass to crack, depending on the quality of the glass itself. Your paperweight might be signed on the bottom. Does it look like it reads Eickholt? Or perhaps Glass Eye Studio (or GES)? It does look like a contemporary American glass paperweight.
