Go Away Sore Throat By Sparkle333 on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

Chloraseptic Sore Throat Spray is a great medicine to keep on hand, as sooner or later someone in the family will probably need it. I have been using it for many years, and if the sore throat is not too horrible, it is quite effective.

However, with this last episode of congestion, cough, sore throat, and fever, nothing would stop the pain. I think that's because there was constant drainage that went on for over a week. In this case, I didn't notice any pain relief. But most times in the past, I have found that it does help significantly.

It is an oral anesthetic, containing phenol, that basically numbs the pain. It is sugar free, alcohol free, and aspirin free. For adults, in order for it to properly coat the throat area, it has to be sprayed 5 times. You let it remain in your mouth for 15 seconds, and then spit it out. It is a temporary pain reliever. It tastes absolutely awful, but when your throat is really hurting, you don't care.

It is also effective for canker sores, and other irritations of the mouth.

While it really didn't help me this time, I believe that for most sore throat pain it does provide some relief.
