Good Vision Comes From Good Nutrition
By Sparkle333 onOn a recent trip to the ophthalmologist with my mom, he told us about the importance of Lutein supplements for sight. She suffers from macular degeneration, and glaucoma. He suggested that she take supplements with Lutein for improved vision. Scientists have recently found that blueberries, bilberries, spinach, kale, and carrots are all vital to good eyesight. (I guess our moms were right about eating our vegetables!) I am so near-sighted, and I wonder if it's because I wouldn't eat hardly any vegetables as a child. Thank goodness I love them now.
The doctor suggested Ocuvite or another eye supplement (that I can't remember right now) for my mom. He said that I should find a multi-vitamin that had Lutein in it. Most of the multi-vitamins that I found with Lutein, also had iron. Now that I am older, I don't need iron anymore, so I will be searching for a multi-vitamin without it, that also has Lutein. But until I find one, I chose Rexall's Lutein Vision 45 mg supplement. It has all the previously mentioned vegetables and fruits, as well as Zeaxanthin, which is a carotenoid, (naturally occurring) in the macula of healthy eyes. You may take one capsule up to two times a day with meals.
I am very concerned about my eyesight, and feel thankful to have been present when my mom's ophthalmologist told us about Lutein supplements.

one must be careful in selection of these "eye supplements" note that rexall is not clear as to just what quantities of the fruits, veggies, or lutein is in the "45mg lutein supplement" IT IS NOT 45MG. the exact amounts are not stated. the amount of zeaxanthin is inadequate, and i suspect that the same is true with the lutein. go to the ZeaVision website and see who in your area owns an instrumetn to measure your macular lutein and zeaxanthin levels accurately. only then can one determine what supplements are amounts of each are best for them. that is not to say that any and all of these eye supplements are not os some value, but many are of very minimal value and i suspect this may be one of them, due to their unwillingness to state EXACTLY what is in the formula.
