I received this book as a "Thanksgiving Gift" from a friend at church who knew I liked quilting. It is an incredible collection of patterns... quite likely the one and only pattern book I will ever need.Of course, I am absolutely delighted with it!

The book presents patch designs in four different categories:Stars & Hearts, Florals, Vintage Classics, and Geometrics. Each section begins with an introduction to that pattern type, discussing the inspirations behind the designs and how they have developed over the generations.

There are 101 patch patterns in all. Each pattern consists of two pages. One is a full-size pattern of the quilt block that can be traced directly from the book without resizing. The other gives brief instructions on how to piece together the block, and then how to piece the blocks together as a whole to achieve different looks.

The book also has a shorter section at the end on borders and edging, giving tips on how to finish off a quilt beautifully.

Finally, the last two pages of the book go over the basics of quilt-making. Despite this, I can definitely say that this is not a good book for beginners. One should have an intermediate knowledge at least, as this book is big on the patterns but not very thorough on instructions.

This book is a real treasure.I find myself leafing through it over and over again, just enjoying the beautiful photos and dreaming up all the quilts I'd like to make someday. It is also a challenge to hone my skills so that I can one day dare to attempt the most intricate patterns.Happy quilting!
