Green Dot Visa Waste Credit Card By TexasHeartland on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
Needing a credit card for an online purchase, I decided that I would try out one of these reloadable credit cards. I wanted to see what the rave was all about. Needless to say, I was less than amused. Ever since I've gotten it, I've had nothing but trouble. In order to receive my actual card, I have to fax a couple of things to the company. No where on the cardboard card does it say I have to send information to the company to confirm my identity. Then I have to wait for them to send me the card before I can make my purchase. Every store I looked at had the same kind of thing with the cardboard card with the activation number. I was really disappointed with this card. It was nothing special, in my opinion. I regret buying it. Now I'm out $35.
The fax number suggested was DISCONNECTED! The phone number for tech service was automated, so I never got to speak to a human being. I had to send a letter to them telling them what happened and to activate my card... No response yet!
Received the card about 1 week later, which made me happy. But 2 days later, they took off $5 for their monthly fee, and it hadn't even been a month yet! I plan on using what is left, and not reloading it again.
Visa Green Dot

Yes, I agree as well. I have had it with Green Dot! I originally was using it to pay for online gaming for my husband, so there would be no reoccuring fees, but it has turned out to be nothing but a pain the arse. Between the loading fees, the monthly charges, and then not actually receiving the plastic card, it is not worth the bother. I use the paypal debit card. Easier and safer.
What a rip off!! I'm glad I read this-I've thought about using these before....
I bought two Greendot cards as a gift for someone. That someone became so frustrated with just trying to activate these cards that I took pity on them, took the cards back for myself, and handed them cash instead. Now I'm dealing with activation. I succeeded as far as one goes. Haven't received it yet, but it's only been two days since I activated it. The other card won't activate at all! I tried calling their customer support, but it is very difficult to get to a real person. You have to go through the whole menu a couple of times until you finally find an option that allows you to speak with a real person. Once I pressed that number, it told me "Sorry, office hours are from this to that". I felt like punching someone! This is complete B.S. and wouldn't wish these cards on my worst enemy, least of all my friends and family.
I totally agree. I wanted to get a $20.00 giftcard to buy some things online, but instead of just the twenty usually paid with a giftcard, I had to pay 25 just for the card. When I finally got to activation, I was supposed to enter my social security, which it didnt say anywhere on the case. Then on the second day it took $5 dollars off of my card and i hadnt even bought anything! It is absolutey the WORST $25 dollers ive ever spent.
