Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows By Avatar Fan By AvatarFan on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

The Harry Potter books are some of the few books I've actually read cover to cover. I own all seven of them, and I find all of them to be really good books. I have A.D.D so it can be pretty hard for me to focus on a book, especially those with the lengths of some of the later books in the series, but they hold my attention pretty well. I had heard stories of people looking all over the place for one copy of Hallows, or waiting in line for long periods of time at midnight on the release date, yet I was most fortunate. I only walked into the first store I tried ( I had a gift card) and got a copy immediately without reservation! I took it home and started reading straight away, and hardly put the book down till it was finished.

This book was definitely a good one. It had just about everything. Drama, comedy, action, romance, mystery and some tragedy. There's even one action scene fairly early on. Now, if you're a Harry Potter fan, it will probably feel a bit strange to you that this book does NOT take place almost entirely at Hogwarts, as every other one does. Fans of the series will know that the majority of the story in the other books takes place at Hogwarts, with small parts (usually the climax) taking place in other parts of the world. This book, however, is the exact opposite, having the grand majority of the story outside the walls of Hogwarts, with the climax being at the school. Harry, Ron and Hermione join together and decide to not return to school that year, but instead decide to venture out into the world entirely own their own in search of the final horcruxes. For those of you who don't know, the horcruxes are magical objects that Voldemort (the series' villain) created to keep himself from dying. Basically, as long as these horcruxes are still intact, Voldemort can not die. The problem is, none of the heroes know for certain what all the horcruxes are! They could be any object from a giant statue to a fly! So now the heroes have to not only find the horcruxes, they have to find out what they are first!

One of the problems this book gets in the middle, is a pacing problem. There's a lengthy sequence where nothing really important happens, and the main characters are just wandering around the world and bicker with each other every second page. This gets annoying, but once you get past it, the book quickly picks up the pace and makes up for it. There are plenty of good twists and turns that you truly don't expect, some of them for the good, some of them for the very, very bad. This book definitely stirred up plenty of emotion in me, and was a very enjoyable experience. My only real complaint besides the pacing problem mentioned earlier, is that the true final climax between Harry and Voldemort was a rather disappointing. It's kind of hard to explain what I mean without completely spoiling the ending, but the way it played out seemed contradictory with what had been set up in earlier books. I think those of you who've read it will know what I mean.

Overall, as I said this book is definitely a worthy addition to the series, and while the end of the climax could have been done better, the book is still well worth reading. I can't wait to see what they do with it as a movie, and I DEFINITELY like that they're splitting the movie into two pats because there's no way they could do this book justice with a mere 2 and a half hours. If you're a fan of the series and have read the other books, then there's no reason you shouldn't buy/check this book out of the library. Thanks for reading!

While not a fan of the written work, I really love the movies! I also cannot wait for this one to come out in the theater. This series really has been something.

Not my favorite Harry Potter book, but still a fairly good read. I hope they can pace the movie(s) a bit better.
