Heartsongs By Mattie Stepanek By uaezarb on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

There was a very special boy born with muscular dystrophy. His name was Matthew Joseph Thaddeus Stepanek or "Mattie", as he was known. Heartsongs is one of the books of poems he wrote during his short life. He died just before his fourteenth birthday in 2004.

Mattie started writing poems and short stories when he was only three! His poems are written way beyond his years. Every time I read them, I can't believe someone so young wrote them. They do have an innocence about them, but yet such a deep meaning in the words. The poems are about simple things, like dandelions, candy and snowflakes. But you will think about those simple things in a whole new light when you read Mattie's book.

There are 20 poems in this book, including one written about the author, himself, Mattie. He also illustrated the book himself.

Mattie was on many shows like Good Morning America and Oprah Winfrey when he was alive. That's how I found out about the books. I haven't heard much about these special books since he died, so I wanted to do this review to bring attention to Mattie's wonderful word's of wisdom to whomever has never read them before.

If you would like to read more about Mattie and the other books he has written here is a link to his website. http://www.mattieonline.com/
