If you need a basic, oscillating fan, I recommend the Honeywell Portable Desk Fan.It's small enough to sit on a desk, but you can also sit it on the floor if you need it there too.There are 3 speeds: low, medium and high.The fan can oscillate, or you can pull up a button and it'll lock in place.If you don't want to turn on the air conditioning all the time and you just want a little breeze, this is a good fan.I like to use it when I'm on the bike or treadmill.That way I get a little air and don't overheat as quickly.If it's really hot out, this fan probably won't cool you down that much.I'd use this indoors only since the cord isn't that long.Honeywell is a good brand and this is a good little fan.

I use a fan at night to provide white noise of I can't sleep. It has to be small to fit on the dresser and it sounds like this one is just that. It's inexpensive too, I like that.
My husband sleeps with a fan on all the time too. We got ceiling fans in our home for this purpose but it turns out it is not the breeze but the SOUND that he likes. I'd much rather have this fan than the big box thing he has now on my floor, yuck!
