I should have taken the $400 and invested it in something other than the HP DVD Movie Writer dc300. From the moment I took it out of the box until two weeks later when I finally gave up and took it back to Best Buy, I had nothing but problems.

When I first bought it, I was excited with the purchase because it looked really nice and sleek. It was light and very portable.

The setup itself was pretty simple, but I wouldn't recommend it for a beginner, because the directions are extremely difficult. I figured it out without looking at the directions and honestly, I don't know how I got it to work.

I wanted this burner for moving my VHS tapes to DVDs and to put videos off of camcorders to DVDs. My main problem with the HP DVD Movie Writer is that it's so SLOW. For 30 minutes of video off my parent's camcorder, it took almost 3 hours to burn.

Also, on the box of the DVD writer, it says that it's compatible with a bunch of different things, but it didn't work with my Sony camcorder, but worked with my parent's Sharp camcorder, which wasn't on the list.

And to make things worse, everytime I would try to do something, like transfer movies from VHS to DVD it would give me tons of error messages. I tried to call customer service, but had trouble reaching an actual person. Finally, they just told me that they were having a lot of problems with this particular product and to return it to wherever I purchased it. So, that I did. And Best Buy was the one who apologized and gave me my full refund back.

To future buyers, I would not recommend this problem. Nothing but problems!
