I purchased this scanner because I had slides of my daughters birth that I have never seen. The information on this scanner said it could scan slides and negatives. Although it was kind of high in price I have always been a fan of HP. It did excatley what I had hoped it would do. The slides came out really clear and I was able to print them out. The only downside to this scanner is the time it takes to scan. I was a little disappointed at the amount of time it takes to scan one picture even at a low resolution, but on the upside the quality is great. This scanner even restores the color from older pictures that have faded. It does a great job on black and white photo's and sepia photo's. I am really glad that I paid the extra money for this scanner, as you know pictures are worth a thousand words and they speak a lot louder when the pictures are clear
