I Actually Grew Something! By cukal6 on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
Every year I buy plants, and every year I kill them. I just don't have green thumb, but I really like flowers. So, this year I decided to buy seeds. That way when I kill them, I'm not out as much money. Since it still drops into the 30's here at night, I knew I needed something to protect them from the cold. I purchased this 3 shelf greenhouse from Target because I didn't need anything too bid. It was very easy to put together (10 minutes) and that afternoon I had my seeds planted, watered, and nice and cozy inside their new home. That first night it got really cold but the book said that it would stay 10 - 15 degrees warmer inside the greenhouse. I was keeping my fingers crossed. It's now been a week and guess what? I have green plants popping up. I actually did a happy dance. My only complaint with this unit is that it's very light. I don't know how well it's going to hold up in the wind. We live out in the country and have some pretty big gusts. We have it anchored down the best we can and I hope it's enough. But for now, I am very happy with this product!
This did blow over in the 45 mph winds we had the other day. However, I picked it up and moved it to another spot in the yard and it was fine in yesterdays winds.
Misco Home & Garden 3 shelf greenhouse Purchased at: Target Price: 34.99

Doing the happy dance! We call it the Snoopy dance..happy feet :) This is so cute and the price is just right. I wonder if you could make it more sturdy by supporting it with mason bricks around the bottom. If your home is out in the open I think you need to reinforce it for sure. Unless you want your plants ending up planted in your neighbors garden! I'm happy you were successful with your seedlings.
Sounds like a great green house. My hubby is into gardening, and he is the one with the green thumb. I will have to tell him about this greenhouse.
Ok I am going to Target to get this. Like you I swear I look at plants and they die! This looks like something I might be able to handle and not kill the flowers. Thanks!
I hear you on the not having a green thumb. Heck I even killed a cactus once. I watered it to much. I can't win. I love plants maybe I should get on of these cheap enough too. Thanks for sharing
Growing plants is so much fun! If your worried about it getting too cold at night, you might want to throw a light blanket over the top for extra protection. Also make sure that when it gets warmer out during the day, if the greenhouse is in the sun you might want to shade it with a sheet or the young seedlings may wilt.
How cool is that greenhouse? I think that it is pretty amazing considering the price of it. We may have to check one of those out so that we can start early... I am dying for some homegrown tomatoes!
I, too, don't have much of a greenthumb! So I never bother planting anything. I am glad it is working for you so far. I would like to know how it is holding up in the wind? We have some pretty strong gust here too and I think it would tip over!
What a sharp looking greenhouse!!! We're always at Target-I'm going to swing by & look at them! Thank you for adding the note that it did not fair too well in high winds!
Sounds like a great green house and I never knew they sold them for so cheap.
See you had a green thumb and never even knew it :0)
