My son lives in New York and I don't get see him very often. We talk on the phone often but I really missed being able to see him. My son has always had a Mac computer and I finally took the plunge about 3 years ago. While I was buying my computer the salesman mentioned the isight. Ok I thought I was pretty tech savy but..I didn't have a clue what he was talking about. He proceeded to explain that is was a web cam and that I could see the people I was talking to. Light bulb goes off...
So needless to say I purchased one for me and of course one for my son. I have to be honest and at first he wasn't thrilled with the idea that mom could now see him but..mother knows best. I brought it home and proceeded to set it up. Just like everything Mac it was a breeze. It is very small and sits right on top of my monitor. It does come with a stand if you want to set in on side of your computer but I found it easier to have it sitting on my monitor. I just plugged it in and i was ready to go.
Two days later my son got his and he set it up. I wasn't sure how well the picture or sound would be but both of us were pleasntly surprised. There is no lag time as far as we can tell and it really felt like we were sitting in the livingroom togther just chating. At the end of our conversation, he did admit he loved it.
Now when my Mom and Dad come over we can all get together and chat. Granted it is not as good as having him home but it's the next best thing. Great investment if you have kids that live far away.

What a great idea & of COURSE mom knows best! I'm sure your son is enjoying it & he will be tickled when all of your relatives gather around the webcam to "see" him!! What a sweet mom you are!
Awww that is so neat:) What a wonderful way to feel connected with your loved ones. The more I hear about Apple the more I am beginning to wonder if I should get one.
This is so cool! I am glad your son finally warmed up and the fact that the picture is clear is so very awesome. I still haven't been able to take the plunge, but this is a great idea to get for my parents so they can see there grandbaby!

I would definitely buy this set up if I lived far from my kids...or any close family or friends.
I would have to get one of these if I had family far away. Glad it is working for your family. ANd yes of course Moms know best.

Our family is very close. The farthest I have moved is across the road and then up the hill. My kids drive me nuts, but I am really hoping they stay close by. But this is a great thing to have if that is your only option. Thanks for sharing your information.
