Ice Fishing With Jack's By timeCapsule on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
I was introduced to fishing by my husband. And it's not just an ordinary kind of fishing... it is ICE-FISHING. It was totally a new experience for me because I never went fishing before. The frozen lakes, ponds and rivers are good this year. The ice sheet over the bodies of water are a foot to 3 feet thick and it is fun walking on it. And to make it more fun for me, my husband applied for a fishing license for me so that I can officially and legally fish in Maine.
Ice-fishing is a very interesting hobby. It uses a different kind of fishing trap called "tip-up". It is made of wood with a metal strip and a flag attached to the tip and a spool for the fishing line and hook. We use Jack Traps because they are the best ice-fishing traps in terms of it's craftmanship and quality. We do have other kinds of tip-ups but the Jack Traps are the best in quality. Once the traps are set on the drilled hole on the ice sheet, the waiting game begins. And we just wait for the fish to bite while hubby and I are snacking or sipping hot cocoa with mini marshmallow inside the warm shack.

I have always wanted to go ice fishing but I am not a big fan of the cold. I never knew there was any special fishing traps needed to go. I always thought once you got the hole in the ice, the fishing was the same as any other fishing. Thank you for educating me and pass me some hot cocoa pleae.
Ice fishing is awesome. I have been able to go once, and now I can't handle it like I use to. It is great experience though. These traps sound great. Thanks for sharing the information.
Ice fishing is big here in Michigan too. Every year there is a "tip-up town" two-weekend festival at Houghton Lake.
C O O L. Too Fun. Down here in Texas "Ice Fishing" is when you're literaly trying to get your ice back out of the water! Good Write.
