if you are a serious amateur, you won't buy this

Reviewing:
Nikon D5000
Newestaddition to its family ofDX-format digital SLRs, the d5000 includes Nikons D-Movie function, second time ever afterthe Nikon D90.
D-Movie gives users the flexibility to shoot Motion JPEG movie clips in different formats at a smooth 24 frames per second.
BUT
since it's all crammed up in what is literally an old d40 body, lacking a good wiewfinder or simply the command system of a 2001 D100, this mss of plastic isn't what you'd define a good CAMERA. it's a nice and pretty combo if you want to show off at parties, but imho you'd had better quality chances buyingone of those new hd videorecorder from Sony, plus buyinga three-hand nikon F2m.
it's nor meat nor fish.
