I'm Disabled, But Able To Do This!!! By Peterson on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
I was a waitress and bartender for many years so I'd been doing aerobics at work for up to 5 hours a day for most of my life. When I worked in sedentary positions, I would workout with weights , hike, and do aerobics for a total of at least 2 hours daily.
Now I have a number of disabilities ranging from torn cartilege in my knees to having had major surgery on my cervical (neck) and Lumbar (lower) spine. Many little things such as arthritis in almost all joints, some removed but still painful, and "stretchy" ligaments that will give me muscle spasms of long (already 7 years in neck and shoulders) to short 1-2 days duration.
This is the first exercise tape I have seen that I can do all of it on my good days. Very informational, with reminders, at least for me, at the right times.
It comes with a "circle". A round metal ring with 2 handles that are very well cushioned. This ring helps to keep one in the right position so one will not hurt oneself doing any of the exercises incorrectly. On good days, I can squeeze the ring and on bad days I just hold it where I'm told. Squeezing the ring gives your body a bit more of a workout.
I recommend this to any one interested in pilates or their own health. I find it very relaxing and the only activity that consistently makes me feel good physically. Swimming even hurts me at times.
If you have physical problemsor are completely out of shape, talk to your doctor, APRN, or PA before trying this.

I have never tried yoga or pilaties so I would be totally new to it. This sounds like a good way to get started.
For someone with multiple musculosketal disabilities, this sounds like a relatively safe but thorough workout. I like your common sense approach in dealing with your good vs bad days. Great attitude!
It's always such good news to be able to find things it is possible to DO. Sounds like a real winner!
Seems like a good workout for varying levels of physical ability, that makes it a winner in my book!
This is great information to know. I will be checking into this for sure. I have MS and I am in a power wheel chair. I work as a freelance writer, but it is mostly now done from home. This exercise could really help me a lot. Thanks for sharing this information.
Isn't it wonderful to find something that works well for you despite some limitations that you might have? You continue to get stronger!
