Impressive Specs At Affordable Price By leon80 on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

Considering the price versus the specs, Acer Aspire 4730Z is my best pick. Acer was able to provide product packages with technical specs offering that is comparable with other leading brand in the market at a definitely lower price.

By default, this package has Linpus Linux OS (Operating System). The store offered me if I want the Windows Vista OS to be installed but I opted to agree because that would be additional charge. Besides, I know I can install it myself.

Anyway, let me take you a tour of the specs. First thing first is the processor and the chipset. Aspire 4730Z offers an Intel Pentium Dual-core T3200 (2.0GHz, 1MB Cache, 667 FSB) and a Mobile Intel GL40 Express Chipset. Memory is 2GB DDR2 by default but is upgradeable up to 4GB. The Hard Disc Drive a stunning 250 GB HDD! Good enough for my music and movie collection. The optical drive is 8X DVD-Super Multi double-layer. It also has a built-in card reader slot for MMC, SD card and memory stick

Boasted with Acer CrystalBrite high definition TFT LCD. Aspire 4730Z's LCD has much brighter, clearer and vivid image display. Thanks to the Mobile Intel GL40 Express Chipset with integrated 3D graphics, definitely perfect for movies and games.

About the Audio specs, it supports Multimedia High-definition audio (Dolby certified surround sound system). I tried testing the sound on my external speaker and I was satisfied with its clear, sharp, deep bass detailed sound. It also has two built-in stereo speakers and a built-in microphone.

Wifi and Bluetooth connectivity are both present in this model. It also has a built-in 56K modem, wake-on-ring ready and wake-on-LAN ready gigabit Ethernet card. Also featuring integrated Acer Crystal Eye high-def webcam. Good thing about the webcam is the clear image even in low light. I/O Interface includes one Express card slot, 2 USB slot, 5-in1 card reader and a VGA port.

Battery can last up to 3 hours; it supports Standby and Hibernation power-saving modes

and ENERGY Star 4.0 compliant.

Warranty is One-year International Travelers Warranty (ITW)

Installer needed for setting up graphics card, Bluetooth, modem, LAN, and other devices can be found on the included resource DVD. For other device installer that is not included on the DVD, you can access Acer's Service and support website and hit the driver download link then just specify the product model and the list of installer will be provided.

What's included in the box?

- Aspire series User guide

- Quick guide manual

- Carrying case with strap

- Resource DVD (contains installer, manual and other tools)

- International Travelers Warranty Passport (1 year)

- Power cord/battery charger

Conclusion: I like the smooth finish and gemstone blue colored outer cover. It weights 2.4 kg (5.29 lbs.) with 6-cell battery. Over-all, the design was compact and easy to carry. Considering the price and the competitive package specification, Aspire 4730Z is tempting. Good choice for budget conscious consumer.

That's nice you found one with a 2GB RAM. In today's technology you really need at least 2 to run your computer and the games or software. I couldn't survive on anything less. Thanks for the review.

I've been looking at several Acers lately to replace my old Compaq. Based on your review, it sounds like an Acer is a great value.
