Ing Direct Online Banking Makes Saving Easy By bellastella227 on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
I opened up an ING account initially to earn a free $25 credit and the opportunity to earn more for referrals. INGdirect.com allows you to open up accounts which are managed completely online. You must link it to a more traditional brick-and-mortar bank account for funding.
I love doing everything online, so I found this website to be extremely user friendly and easy to understand. I feel comfortable with their level of security and the process of logging in. I find it easy to open new accounts and I take advantage of this to create sub-accounts with different purposes. I even opened up an ING Electric Orange Checking account which I use to pay my mortgage and a few other bills. The checking account even earns interest!
When I opened the account initially, the interest rate wasn't highest in the industry, but it was higher than standard. I just felt that the website was easy to use and access and that made me happy. There are no fees involved with the banking or bill-paying. The only downside, to me, is that it takes time to transfer money between the linked account and ING. In the long run, it is probably good because that means that you can't just instantly access the money on a whim, which helps with the goal of saving.

How long does it take to access your money? I'm wanting to open an online account somewhere but I don't like not having instant access to my moneoy.
This sounds great! We can do online banking with our bank but the interest is crazy low. Also they have a minimum balance and charge out the ying yang if you go below it. I'm going to check into this. Thanks.
I have a small ING account open too. I do like the on line banking, although I still have my main bank too
I have always heard good things about ING and the interest rate is cetainly better than a conventional bank!
Are their services available outside U.S.?Great piece you got here. Thanks for the info.
Mmmmm. It sounds good but I guess I'm a bit old fashioned:0) I'll keep my money at a "normal" bank and just use their online features..... for now anyway. This is good to know for the future though in case I change my mind:0)
Can this be used as just a savings account as well? I have heard some people talking about ING but they were discussing how great it is to save using that because of the interest. I have been looking for a good place to just open up 2 savings accounts. That has been hard to find. I will go and check this out.
