Insect Repellent Lantern By Janna on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
While I love living in the South the biggest drawback is all the bugs. It doesn't really matter what time of the year it is there always seems to be mosquitoes or some type of bug having you for dinner. Being able to stand it no longer my husband purchased OFF's insect repelling lantern.
While the lantern is attractive and the bugs do stay away in a 15X15 foot radius like advertised this product unfortunately doesn't last long. This lantern uses a tab that is inserted into the top and then a tea lite candle is place at the bottom of the lantern and lit. The tab is spent long before the tea lite burns out.
While this product works as well as any other of the OFF products one serious drawback is the smell. As the tabs burn they emit an unusual chemical like odor. Also if you inhale the smoke it can make you feel extreamly ill as well as leaving a stinging feeling in your lungs.

Thanks for the info. I was looking at these for my deck. I thought if I have to kll bugs I might as well have something cute out there. Never mind I will stick with the spray. Thanks again for the heads up.
I live in the south too and I totally understand about the bugs. The smell would bother me with these, most bug products do, thanks for letting me know.
I would be afraid of the chemical bothering children or making them sick. We have a little grandson so I will be staying away from this product. Thanks for sharing the honest information.
I'm so glad you mentioned the smell-our family is sensitive to smells & we would probably get sick from this!!! Thank you for that fact!
Nope, I wouldn't like to deal with the odor!
