I purchased the black Nano about 3 months after they had been on the street. One could not ask for a better size & weight. I can put it in my shirt pocket without compromising the pocket's shape. It simplistic / minimalist design adds to the "cool factor" often found with Apple products. I have found the battery life to be excellent. I use it at my desk every day and the battery typically lasts the entire day. The shortcomings of the unit are: ease to scratch the back, the volume is sometimes too low, and there are few "extra features".

this does sound cool & friends of mine who have these say the same thing as you do-that it gets easily scratched.
My boys are wanting one of these for their birthday. Thanks for the info on how easy they scratch. I will have to get them skins to cover it.
My boys, being savvy consumers opted for the SanDisk at a lower price and got much better features and durability.
Sometimes simple is good, but I don't like scratching.
