Last year for Christmas my kids (ages 11 & 8) got iPod shuffles first generation model. This is the one with a longer shape; about the size if a small pack of gum. It has a 512 mb built in memory. That means it can hold about 120 songs, which for my kids is more than sufficient. I bought these iPods from Apple.com in the refurbished section and have had no problems whatsoever. You download songs off the internet or even off a cd and then transfer them onto the iPod. You just take the end cap off the shuffle and it plugs right into the usb port on your pc. It's fairly easy and I feel like if I can get it most anyone can. I'm not real techy to say the least. The usb port is also the way you charge the battery. It comes with ear buds that plug into the iPod and the sound quality is pretty good.There are accessories you can purchase like charging docks, speakers including cute animal shaped ones, different colored skins to change the look, iPod cases etc. This shuffle was the perfect starter iPod for my kids and has given them a lot of joy!
