I bought this Sony DVDirect about 4 years ago so I could transfer all of our VHS's over to DVD.I started having problems right from the beginning and they've only gotten worse. Most of the time I can't even get the thing to recognize that I'm hooked up to the VCR or TV.Or, it will start to format a disc and it seems to just freeze.I have let it go for hours before I've finally given up.The most frustrating is when I finally get it to record, and then halfway through it stops. Then I have to start all over.I have only successfully transfered one video to DVD in the entire time that I have owned it.I don't know if the newer models have the same problems, but I will not be trying them any time soon.My next purchase will be a DVD recorder.

Sorry you had such bad luck with this product. Hopefully, they made the newer ones much better.
Thanks for the honest information about this DVD burner. I certainly know to stay away from this model.
Oh my gosh. It sounds like you've had a horrible time with this product! Sony should be ashamed of its self! You should write to the company and complain.
I am surprised that being made by Sony the product has been such a trouble to you! I'm sorry to hear it's being so difficult. I remember before they had DVD burners I would make VCD's which could be viewed on certain DVD players, and the program I used, I had the same problem you had all the time. It would take forever, or would get half way through after like an hour and then freeze. Good luck when you decide to purchase another DVD burner!
I have never tried a product like this before. To be honest, I am not sure that I am knowledgeable enough in stuff like that to even bother trying. I am sorry about your bad luck.
I need something like this! We have lot's of VHS tapes that we need to convert to DVD. When did you purchase this model of Sony Vhs/DVD combo? I'm hoping that the quality has improved.
I feel your pain...I'm with you-my next purchase would also be a DVD recorder & I hope you find one that works well for you!
Sony usually makes such good and reliable products that I am surprised that this DVD burner has given you so much trouble! It is too bad that you could not have returned it or traded it in for something that performs.
Yuck, that sounds like a bad experience. Sorry! Thanks for sharing though.
Oh man, that's horrible! I'd have returned it, that's a lot of money for a product that worked once!
