It Takes Two To Talk: For Kids With Speech Delays By Alicia Bodine on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

As a mother of a special needs child I have to do a lot of research and attend special classes to learn how to best help my daughter. A big area of concern for her is communication. One day her speech therapist offered a class on It Takes Two to Talk which is also a book that I got to take home. This book teaches parents how to properly work with their children to establish a form of communication.

I loved this book because it taught me which stage of development my daughter was in and how to work on helping her get to the next level. Even if your child shows no sign of being able to understand communication you need this book. I cannot begin to express all of the things I have learned from it in such a short time.

My daughter's speech therapist taught us and you have to be certified to teach this course. One surprising thing I learned is not to say to a child, "Say ball". Then we keep on trying to get our kids to say a certain word and keep repeating it to them and asking them to say it. This book teaches you the right way to go about it.

I give this book an A+ and plead with all parents who have a child with language delays to get this book!

I have a friend whose son is autistic and still does not speak at 6 years of age, I will suggest this to them.

A wonderful book, to be able to establish better communication is key. My friend's daughter was speech delayed. She is improving now after therapy.
