iTrip makes my old iPod useful
By jb_shops onI have repurposed my old 15GB iPod (2nd generation) to my car iPod.I listen to a lot of podcasts on my expensive & long commute to and from work.To connect my iPod to my stereo I use the iTrip by Griffin. This is the original version that mounts on the top of the iPod using both the headphone and accessory port.It looks like a cigar attached to the top of the player.
You download and sync configuration MP3s to the iPod and use these to set the frequency of the FM transmitter.
Overall, this has served a good purpose but if you are buying a used one I would go with one of the modern FM transmitters offered by Griffin.
Good:
- Allows me to listen to iPod audio content in my car over FM
Bad:
- Uses iPod battery power
- FM modulator varies by locations
- Sound quality acceptable for spoken audio, below FM quality for music

My husband uses this for his iPod. One recommendation is to purchase the iTrip on Ebay. My husband is on his 3rd iTrip and buying them off Ebay has saved us lots of money.
Thanks for showing the good and bad of iTrip (original) . Very useful info.
Great product there despite of the bad points cos it still serves the purpose as you want it to.
I think i trip is a rip off, you can buy a generic plug that allows you to play your ipod in the car.
Very cool. I had no idea you could do this. Maybe I'll get me an Ipod to use in the car!
I believe you are going to help people to avoid wasting money on one of these iTrips. Though they do a fair job, there are better solutions out there.
I'm a little behind on the ipod times thanks for the information
Sounds like they need to improve on this product.
