It's Perfectly Normal By Robie H. Harris By daniellew79 on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

I joined this Children's Book of the Month club and ordered my 10 year old step-daughter this book that I thought would be helpful. It is called It's Perfectly Normal (Changing Bodies, Growing up, Sex & Sexual Health). By Robie H Harris, illustrated by Michale Emberley.

This book is incredibly inappropriate for this age. It even says on the front for age 10 and up. I wouldn't show it to her at 16.

First of all, it may have some good chapters, but the illustrations just were so explicit, I couldn't bear to read it thoroughly. The basis of the book is to teach preteens about puberty and sex. I assumed since it was age 10 and up, it would be a basic description and it was not. There were graphic pictures of sex, masturbation, etc. There is a chapter on abortion! Really inappropriate to me because I thought that this book would help her understand what puberty was all about, and give a basic introduction to sex, not go on to tell her that if she got pregnant she could just end the pregnancy.

I don't recommend this book to anyone. And I was really dissappointed in the website I ordered it from for not making me aware that I was about to purchase some soft core pornography for my 10 year old. Thankfully she never saw it.
