J&J's Lifescan Glucometer, One Touch Ultra: Easy and Fast!
By mimpi onThe demand of a proper health kitaroused when my father fell ill after a heart attack with the subsequent detection of hypertension and impaired fasting glucose. We decided to go for a blood pressure monitoring device and a glucose meter. We didn't have to go shopping much for glucose meter though. The unanimous decision was that of J&J's Lifescan glucose meter.
The One Touch Ultra is a very convenient monitor to read blood glucose level at home. It gives an almost accurate result in mere 5 seconds! It provides us with comfortable testing with a fast draw design with capillary action making the testing easier. It's infact very easy. I just have to insert the needle, apply the sample blood to the strip and the result is there in the digital monitor in seconds! In addition to this, it stores the last few glucose reading with specific date and time. And taken that it's the digital era, it gets very easy to compare and improve on it.
The kit comes with a sporty carrying case, a logbook, a booklet and a comprehensive reference guide. My father even got 10 strips and lancets free with the kit. Its very handy and easily be carried anywhere and everywhere. The strips are available in all J&J counters. It provides us with a life time warranty and this is to let you know that I have been already replaced with the battery for free. The customer care service is prompt and automated. I, overall, had a good experience.
The only thing that might come in between your decision to buy the glucose meter is that of the increasing price of the strips. They do not really come cheap!
My father, who has been diagnosed with borderline diabetes recently, was initially in self denial and would not go for regular blood sugar assessment. We never had someone in our family with diabetes and he was hesitant in the first place. So, I decided to go for something that might help him with it. One Touch Ultra is just appropriate for him. It very easy to operate for someone like my father who is not that tech savvy.
The glucose meter serves all of us and I remember when my sister came to visit us last time we all went for a strip challenge. And let me tell you we all are doing fine on this regard. It came as a huge relief!

I am saving for a glucometer for my husband as well. Hope I can get it next week. So this review is timely. Thanks for sharing. Good review.
Thanks. I think it's really worth investing on. That reminds me I must go check mine!
I agree with you, mimpi. My grandma had diabetes too, and we also use One touch Ultra. very easy to use and gives you an accurate reading in a matter of seconds! The strips could cost a fortune, though. But it is a wise investment, especially if it is for the promotion of health and prevention of sickness. Great review!
I can't believe you have to pay for your glucose meters!! Here in Canada we just have to ask our Doctor, dietition or nurse and they will give it to us for free!! We do pay for the test strips, and you can get a free meter with the purchase of 100 strips with a coupon that you can get online.
The test strips I here cost almost $100!! My doctor wants me to test a minimum of 4x a day, it is way to costly!! If you have benefits or insurnce they should cover the cost of the strips, or a Pharmacare/Medicare program, also Blue or Red Cross can help you with this. Ask your doctor for information on programs that will cover the cost or at least help you out. Someone I am friends with overseas buys her test strips online for about $30.00 from Amazon. I am too scared to do this, but she has never had a problem.
