Joy Division: Substance By cursedsoul on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

Most punk rock fans like Joy Division. The band was big in teh 70's and early 80's and grew from infancy along progressive rock. The lead singer of the band, Ian Curtis has been given hero status by punk rock fans.

Substance has been one of Joy Division's most successful albums. Two chart topping tracks are Komakino and Glass. Both these tracks belong to the three-chord punk genre. The lyrics of most songs in this album are highly gothic, which adds to the hitherto lost feeling when you listen to the album.

Several songs of the album were penned during the hardest days of Curtis' life when he battled epilipsy. The tracks 'Love will tear us apart' and 'She's lost control' have been included in the 2007 feature film 'Contol', a documentary on Ian Curtis' life. Both these songs emerge as masterpieces. I deliberately rated 'number of tracks' 4 on 5 because the album leaves you wanting more.

On a concluding note, I'd like to recommend the album Substance and hence the band Joy Division to every music lover, particularly ones who love soft and 70's rock.
