Kauai On A Budget By itsybitsy on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

A cheap Expedia hotel/air package lured me to Kauai and I ended up buying this guide to get around without booking tours. This is the wild and unspoiled island and I wanted to wander its tropical valleys and take in some of its famous trails. I wasn't disappointed. The island and this guidebook delivered all I could ever want. What a place.Daily outings were definitely enriched because I had all the driving directions. There are maps inside too. Some of the roads were a little bumpy but when I got to the end and hiked down the trail to the beaches, it was worth the trouble. I felt very safe and the folks there were very friendly. The surf was high which made snorkeling adventures few but I did manage one perfect day at Anini Beach. There was good camping there and next time I will haul a tent along for even cheaper digs.

Kauai has always been the island we gravitate to. The Kauai Trailbazer is the best guidebook for finding all the trails and beaches. We like the writing style and the way they've organized it. Definitely for independent travelers.
