Key Bank
By uaezarb onWe have been customers of Key Bank since they bought out our bank a number of years ago.We have a checking account with no monthly fee and no minimum balance. That is about the only good thing I can say about the service.
We are in the process of checking on other alternatives for our checking needs, due to the fact, we have grown increasingly dissatisfied with the banks customer service and the fees are extremely high.If we happen to overdraft, the fee is $38 per item. The only way to avoid this fee is to have overdraft protection, which involves having a credit card that the check will be paid from. This doesn't mean you are getting overdraft protection for free. You still have to pay interest charges on the credit card when it is used.
We have had instances where we deposited a check that cleared the next day along with other checks we had written the day before and some how the checks we write always seem to clear before the deposit check. This causes the checks to overdraft. So basically it depends on what order the bank records the transactions, and of course, it always seems to be in the order in which the bank profits by an overdraft fee.
We have never known this bank to be a customer friendly bank, and it seems to be getting worse.I would not recommend them to anyone.

Great information! I like the smaller banks, more friendly!
Thanks for the information, might come in handy
I'm sorry you are so disappointed with Key bank. You should try Charter One. I have been a customer there for a long time. We have tried a few different banks over the years and this one has the friendliest employees and the managers are always willing to help you with any problem that arises....
i am not a fan of key bank, i prefer huningotn myself!
I hate hate hate overdraft fees. They are ridiculous!! When I was in the hospital for a week having a BABY, my bank charged our credit card an overdraft fee because I wasn't around a computer to pay it and was in a hospital 2 hours away. Then they lowered my limit so each month I would have an overdraft fee unless we paid $300 dollars. Banks KILL me! I'd love to find a really good one.
Oh my yea, overdraft fees are the worst. It never fails that they always hit at the worst possible times. I have managed to control that lately, but it use to be a real headache. This does not sound like a very good bank at all. Sorry you have had such problems. I hope you find a better bank soon.
$38.00?!?! Wow, that is such a royal rip off :(
Does not seem a friendly bank at all, not a good one to do business with.
Oh I had the SAME problem with a check being deposited and checks coming in. They would always take the money out of the checks coming in and do the deposit last. We got messed up once with that and I called and raised some you know what! I hate banks that like to nickel and dime a hard working customer!
I bank with Suntrust and I always seem to run in that too. My paycheck can get deposited the same day as a few checks clear and those checks always clear first and I have $35 overdraft fee for each transaction. It's ridiculous. Good luck finding another bank, I think I need to do the same thing!
