Khe Folding Park Tire By green24 on - Updated Sep 18, 2011
The KHE tire is different from original tires. Tires used originally have a thick metal bead on the edge of the tire that holds it together. The difference between the KHE tire and the original tire is that the KHE has a thinner sidewall, and instead of a metal bead, it instead has a kevlar bead to hold it together. As you may know, kevlar is used to make bulletproof vests, so you can sleep soundly knowing that this tire will hold up well and not tear easily at all. What does a kevlar bead have though that is different than a regular metal bead? We know that it is tougher, but most regular tires are already tough enough. What seperates the KHE tire from the regular tire is weight. You can shave over a pound and a half on some occasions, which reduces the bikes overall weight and rotating mass, making it easier to manuveur the bike. Another thing about the tire is that it must run at at least 90 psi, or else the bead gets out of shape, causing a pinch flat. Overall, this tire is great value and should not be overlooked if you are trying to shave some weight from you bike.
