We just love Kiawah Island South Carolina. Kiawah is a gated community and to stay there you must rent a home for a week which are available online. We stayed there for Spring Break and had a wonderful time. It is undeveloped land so you don't see high rises on the very clean beaches, there are nature trails and bike trails everywhere and it is so beautifully landscaped. There are golf courses as well if you like to golf. They have a kids center with activities as well as a nature center that makes it enjoyable as well. The beaches are just beautiful, clean and we love the powdery white sand. Each community has it's own pool and you are just a short stroll away from the beach. There is a small newer town close by with some restaraunt options and a grocery store as well. If you are looking to get away from it all with your family and experience a wonderful beach vacation I highly recommend Kiawah Island.
