Kick The Cold With Vicks! By karlawmcdonald on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
Colton is usually hit hard by allergies , and not long after school starts he will end up with a cold, just like clock work. Our pharmacist has recommended us giving him Vick's NyQuil Cold & Flu this time. I am not sure this is one we want to stick with for him.
First off, it smells horrible, but I could not tell him that, but he did inform me it tasted "yucky", he said it was like hot licorice. Another downfall is you have to take this every six hours, I much prefer the medications you take every 12 hours, especially when dealing with a child. It is not an easy chore getting them to take any medicine at any rate, much less 4 times a day. And this has 10% alcohol in it! I guess we should have paid better attention when at the pharmacy, or maybe the pharmacist is used to people asking him for something that will help their children sleep, alcohol would do that for sure!
I just do not like anything about this medicine for a younger person, and I would prefer taking a capsule myself over drinking a " yucky" fluid.
Vicks NyQuil Cold & Flu Purchased at: Kroger Price: $5.48

NyQuil, not a family favorite here either. A few of the kids are actually allergic to some of the ingredients and reactions are from skin rashes to really weird nightmares and for me - I hear voices (more than usual LOL) None of us were able to stick with it to find out if it actually worked well unfortunately. Usually kids cough and cold products knock me out - this one just made me feel psychotic :)
