Kill A Watt By cukal6 on - Updated Sep 18, 2011
Our electric bill has been really high lately and I was determined to find out why. My brother recommended this gadget to me and I am so glad he did. You plug your electronic device into it and the lcd screen on the front tells you the following information: volts, amps, watts, power factor, frequency, KWH, and a timer.
I pluged it into my 40 year old refrigerator downstairs and realized that it was costing me more than $20/month to run. .33kwh/hour 24 hours a day 30 days a month at .095kwh equals $22.66 month.
After that, I got curious as to what other things cost me around the house. For example, turning my computer off but leaving it plugged in would cost me $3.43/mo while leaving it in sleep mode only costs me $5.64/mo.
I would highly recommend this product to anyone who is curious about their electric bill. You can find out in a matter of minutes what is costing you the most money. You could save the $20 is costs you to buy the kill-a-watt in the first month.

We need one of these. I've never heard of a tester like this before. Thanks so much for the information!
I could use one of these. I recently read something about being sure to turn your monitor off, and that the best way to save was to unplug the surge protector, since most of us plug all our computer stuff (printers, fax, etc) into that. So I try to do that. can't say I've noticed a big difference, but maybe I just spend too much time on the computer!
Wow, this is such a good product. Thanks for the informations.
