Kiss Your Ice Goodbye!!

Reviewing: Prestone Driveway Heat, Concentrated Ice Melter, 20lb Bag
Purchased at: Ace Hardware     Price: $9.25 USD

I hate winter, especially the ice and snow.I seriously need to move to a warmer climate very soon!!

Before the first snow even falls we purchase a couple 20 lb. bags of Prestone Driveway Heat to melt the freezing rain we might get or ice packed snow that always seems to collect at the top of our driveway.A lot of it is caused by drip off from our garage roof due to lack of a gutter. There's a slight downward slant at the top of our drive so it's a dangerous first step unless I am getting in the car inside the garage.

Unfortunately, I don't have that convenience every day as I carpool with my sister to work.On days that she drives I make sure the driveway has been liberally sprinkled with the ice melter pellets as I'm deathly afraid of falling on my ass and not being able to get up.With 2 knees that have been replaced I am especially careful in winter.

We have usedthe Prestone Driveway Heat for many years. We also use this at the company I work for to keep the large walkway clear of ice for employees and guests.

**It works much faster on ice than any other product we've used. It's a calcium chloride concentrate that melts to a clear solution so no dragging in rock salt crystals into the house because they are stuck in the grooves of your shoes or boots.

**It works down to -25 degrees Fahrenheit.I'm not even sure I would be out if it was that cold!

**Used according tothe package directions it states this product will not harm your vegetation.I could make a few funny remarks here but I wont. We've never noticed a problem as our perennials bloom each spring, especially along the front walkway of our house.

**Normally we purchase the 20lb bags but it is also available in 50 lb bags or the one I like which is a shaker jug that weighs 9-1/2 lbs.An old cup or plastic bowl works great to throw the pellets out, can be left in the bag and thrown out at the end of winter.

**A 20 lb bag is only $9.25, a bargain to me versus a broken leg or hip if anyone were to fall. It's not just me I'm concerned about but also anyone that needs to come to our home, whether it's family, a friend, or the repairman that came out today to fix our garage door opener.

Do yourself a favor the next time you need something to de-ice your driveway, give this product a try if you haven't already.A few pellets go a long way!

this is the first I've heard of Prestone Driveway Heat. Sounds like a great thing to have around in winter! I'm going to show your review to hubby!

Sounds like a perfect product to have on hand when you live in snowy climates...thanks for the info Alice, will have to get some of this as I have already fallen on my bad knee - twice last winter - no fun there...don't wish to repeat the pain this year. Thanks!!

Sounds like a great product. I've been looking for something to use on our stamped concrete walkway. Hubby doesn't want to use salt and I don't want to spend a fortune on ice melters. This looks like it'll fit the bill!

I like the fact that it doesn't track in. I have that problem if its too cold for the salt to melt the ice and snow. I think my salt only goes down to -12 and here in Canada, temperatures sometimes dip to the -25 mark. I am going to see if I can get this product.
