La Cie External Hard Drive Designed By F.A. Porsche By G Lee on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
Vast media storage is required with larger raw files in pictures, videos and music or just the sheer amount of media that one wants to store. For notebook users, it is not always necessary to upgrade the housed hard drive but an additional hard drive, either 2.5" or 3.5" sized drives. If portability is a must, I would recommend looking for a 2.5" portable hard drive since it does not require a power adapter to run, but is powered by the USB cable. With portability, the size is a bit more limited since 3.5" hard drives can range up to 1TB (1000 GB) on a single hard drive. This external hard drive provides a very simplistic designed case with passive cooling (no fans) and paired with a power adapter and a very short USB cable. I would recommend buying another USB cable if the external drive is going to be placed more than 2 feet away from the USB plug. This is a very reliable drive that is great to use for backing up files and does not take too much space on the desk either. At around $100, it is a great buy for 500GB but other hard drive sizes are available depending on the space required. If you are looking for a drive under 250GB, I would recommend the smaller 2.5" hard drives but otherwise, 3.5" lacks a bit of portability but makes up for its large capacity.
