This lava lamp is one of the coolest i have seen yet! It turns purple to clear to pink in clour. You just add a few drops of dish soap into the small hole at the top, then add the tiny ball beads that come with it into the hole, then fill it with water. It looks so cool as the balls fall through the bottom and come up through the top of the volcano. It looks like an erupt volcano. It takes 3 AA batteries which i like incase the kids decided to forget to turn it off. I don't have to worry to much about a house fire. Or you can buy seperatly a plug as it has a plug outlet on the back of it. You can only see the lamp from the front as it has a place case on the back. It has an on and off switch on the front and on the back of it. I can't say how long this lava lamp works running on batteries as my kids just got these as a gift from their Uncle. I would imagine it matters just how much it is turned on. What a lovely gift for a girls room.
