The Leap Frog's Start Gym is great for even newborns. I haved used this with both of my daughters. I have laid a blanket under the toy and placed my daughter under the toy that goes around. For newborns they can look at that and as they get bigger they can make the earth toy roll around. There are other features with this that are fun for baby. My oldest still loves this toy even though she is two years old. It is light enough for her to carry. There are several songs and two sections. One is for babies and the other is for toddlers. It also has a song where the kid can learn to say hello in several different languages. It takes double a batteries which last a long time with the toy. It is one of those toys you would want to leave home and not carry with you when you go visit family and friends. It takes up a large space.
