Leapfrog Word Whammer Fridge Phonics By jessica52877 on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

This is made by leapfrog which to me means educational toys usually for preschoolers and this word whammer fits right in that description. My son is almost 5 and enjoys playing with this. He is able to either just put in a letter and hear what it is along with the sound, which is good review for him. Also, you can spell out words and it will sound it out for him or he can play a game on it. I enjoy that it has the 3 different modes of play for him so in reality you could purchase this for a younger child and have them grow with it.

This is a huge magnet made to stick to the fridge and each letter then is also a magnet. If for some reason it doesn't work on your fridge then you can usually do an outside door to the house or the washer and/or dryer. So it does make it nice that if you don't want it in the kitchen then it doesn't have to be.

One thing that I don't care for is that it seems to go through the batteries very quickly. I have not experienced this with any other leapfrog toy so I was surprised. Usually even if the child doesn't turn it off it isn't using the battery. I am wondering if they weren't just weak batteries to begin with though.

Overall, I really like this education toy. It teaches young children about the abc's and phonics sounds of the letters.
