Leatherheads By tntdns on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
Leatherheads gives a nod to the classic romantic comedies with double-entendre one liners and snappy back and forth banter, between the stars, George Clooney and Renee' Zellweger. This "cute" film is also a some what informative biography about the birth of professional football. George, as Dodge Conelly, plays ruggedly in a football league with few rules and little structure. Unfortunately this leads to poor attendance at the games, and his team goes bankrupt. He returns to the game by drafting a popular Princeton University player and War Hero, Carter Rutherford, played by John Krasinki. Renee', perfectly cast in the part of smart and sassy, siren, Lexie Littleton is a reporter sent on assignment to break open the questionable tale of Rutherford's heroism during the war. Lexie bounces back and forth with little commitment between the two men, determined to pry the truth from Rutherford while keeping Dodge at arms length. Leatherheads is fun and entertaining, but drags somewhat in last half hour, as the film attempts to redeem Dodge Conelly in a muddy and longwinded final game. Worth seeing if it's free.
