Lexapro A Cure For Depression? By John Watson on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
A little over a year ago, I was diagnosed with depression and GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder). My doctor recommended that I try Lexapro to see if that would help with my problems. It was with great reluctance, as I am somewhat averse to taking meds of any sort, that I decided to give it a try.
The results were quick and borderline miraculous. Within 3 days of going on the medication, almost all of my issues seemed to fade into the background. My general tiredness, anxiety and worrying over the slightest tiny detail, disappeared almost overnight. I am on the lowest dosage (10mg, it also comes in 20 and 30) and didn't feel drugged up in any way.
The medication, like most you see advertised these days, does come with a laundry list of side effects, but the only one that I got hit with particularly hard was insomnia. I would feel incredibly tired by the end of the day, but as soon as I lay down I felt wide awake. The main difference here though, was that I wasn't awake worrying.
All in all, I'd recommend Lexapro to anyone who has been diagnosed with either depression or GAD. It had been great for me and has cleared the fog that seemed to be laying thick inside my head for years.
Lexapro (10mg) 10mg Purchased at: Wal-Mart Pharmacy Price: $35

I agree with you! It should be called the WONDER DRUG!!!
I'm so happy this medication has helped you. Do you have to take something for the insomnia now too? At least you didn't have too many side effects from taking this.
I have taken this for several years now for Neurocardiogenic syncope and LOVE it. Went through several SSRIs before taking this one and had horrible s/e with all the others but no problems at all with Lexapro :0) Glad it works for your too!
I'm with you... don't like meds, but I'm sure glad that this worked so well in your case.
I was on Lexapro for about 6 months...it took care of the depression, but made me so upset if someone wanted to interrupt my little world when it seemed to be going perfect. In otherwords,it helped me as it made me no longer sad, but I turned into an angry monster at times. They weaned me off and now I cope with life on my own...but I it did help end the blues!
