Lg 42 Inch Plasma Hdtv Model 42pc5dc By 2mickeys3minnies on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

We just recently purchased the LG 42 inch plasma, model 42pc5dc from our local Best Buy for $1199. It is a 720p HDTV with a built in digital tuner so you don't need a digital box to receive digital cable. It has easily accessible component connections for your HD receiver, VCR, DVD player, and home theatre. Also, as an added bonus it has component inputs on the side that make it easier to use when wall mounted. Wall mounting is an option if you purchase a separate kit for around $159, however we have ours on the included base which sits nicely on our TV stand.

There are several options on this model which we find useful. You can change the aspect ratio which changes the size of the viewing screen with one button using the remote. There are settings for daytime, normal or nighttime which change the brightness on the screen. This is also done quickly and easily through the use of the remote. It also has the LG XD engine which converts non HD channels to near HD quality.

Set up was easy. We had it out of the box and were watching TV within 15 minutes. It has a very attractive, black polished case and also comes with its own polishing cloth for both the case and the screen. The instruction booklet was easy to read and use. It also comes with an extended manual on CD if you prefer.

In our opinion, it has a great digital picture, but the HD channels have an outstanding crispness. They are very clear and there is a big difference when flipping between regular channels and HD channels. The sound on this TV is also much better than on our previous TV, but using a home theater for sound is probably the best option. Sometimes the sound fluctuates between channels. A big plus to buying this TV is that it comes with a two year manufacturers warranty. If you've ever had to have a service call on a plasma TV you know how important this is as repairs can be very costly. We recommend the LG 42 inch Plasma HDTV Model 42pc5dc. We hope your experience is as good as ours.

I have heard the plasma needs to be replaced every few years on these tv's, is that true?

This is the exact TV that I have and I love it! Although I wasn't aware there was different settings for day and nightime as far as the brightness settings. I will have to look into that! I love the inputs on the side too, they work out great for my XM hook up. :o)

I think that is a great feature about the different setting for day and nighttime TV watching! The things they come up with. I wanted a plasma until I kept hearing that they tend to die within 3 to 5 years after purchasing it. I am glad you are happy with this TV

I would love to have a tv like this someday. This really sounds like a great one. It really seems to have a lot of extra options too. Gotta love that!! Very helpful information.

Sounds like an awesome investment! I really like that it comes with a two year warranty. I have heard that the plasmas can be mega expensive to have fixed so that is definitely something to look for! The brightness feature is also very cool. Its so frustrating to be watching tv and have glare spots where you can't see what it going on.
