Like A Breath Of Fresh Air By Chocollette on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

Like so many people everywhere around the country, the flu has hit hard this winter and I certainly was not immune to it this year. As I lay in my bed with covers and pillows surrounding me, laptop in lap and Kleenex close to me, I am a happy girl (at least for the next 12 hours and then the Afrin will wear off!) because I can finally breathe after not being able breathe for a week.

I actually am going through a double whammy with a touch of the flu and a sinus infection and upon suggestion of my doctor, decided to try Afrin to get some relief. My doctor told me to read the directions thoroughly as you are not able to use this product after three days because frequent use might cause the congestion to worsen. Absolutely nothing has been able to penetrate through my nose. I even got brave and put some black pepper on a plate to see if I would be able to sneeze and that did not even work so Afrin was my last resort. I did the obligatory three squirtsful in each nostril and felt as if I died and went to sinus infection heaven. The Afrin worked within minutes and I can inhale fresh air once again (again, this should last for 10 hours and then my nose will turn into a pumpkin and I won't be able to breathe again until the next squirt).

Albeit temporary, I strongly suggest this product for fast congestion relief.

There's nothing worse than a totally stuffed up nose! I'd wondered if Afrin was as effective as it claimed it was. Next time I get clogged up, I'll definitely give this a try Chocolette. 44.59 isn't bad for something that really works.

Ohhh...I could have used this last month! :-)

This sounds great for instant relief when nothing else helps. Thanks for sharing your experience with it.

Tink

I used this product when I was pregnant. I over used it and became addicted to it. It took about one month for me to be weaned off of the spray. I suggest you only use this a few times if you have to. Otherwise, I suggest you use a saline nose spray which isn't addicting.

Chocollette

You are absolutely right Tink! The instructions do say to use it no more than three days or else the "rebound effect" will set in. I use the saline spray as well!!

I'm not a huge fan of the nasal sprays, but this does sound like a great way to get quick relief.
