Reviewing: J. R. Watkins Liniment
Purchased at: Walgreens     Price: $14.99 USD

We bought this product for my husband's elbow after he pulled a muscle.

J. R. Watkins Apothecary "The Original Liniment' comes in an 11 ounce plastic bottle that looks more like old fashion cough syrup or alcohol. I really like their old-time marketing label that hasn't changed over the years. J. R. Watkins has been around since 1868. That's a testament to their products in my book. I had been hesitant to buy this because the word "liniment" seemed so old-fashioned, but in the end this stuff has been around a long time and really does work.

This liniment has a red tint but it doesn't leave your skin all red. You will feel some heat as the oil absorbs into the skin and muscle area.

It has all natural capsicum and spruce oil and the active ingredient is 3.5% Camphor. Use for simple backache, strains, bruises or sprains and it is also marketed for athletic use and is for ages 2 and older. Apply product 3-4 times per day. However, if your problem goes longer than 7 days, they recommend you go see your doctor.

I do forewarn you, that the liniment will get quite warm, so please take that into consideration when applying it and also when applying it to children. This is oil based but it doesn't leave an oily residue on the skin. It absorbs easily, but please take care to NOT rub your eyes or get it anywhere near your face. Oils go immediately into the skin, so use care.

This isn't a "cure-all" for pain and I wouldn't say it heals, but it definitely helps relieve the pain. Overall my husband likes this product and will continue to use it for future muscle aches and/or sprains.

I've never heard of this. We usually use Minards, it's really good!
