I've tried many modems, and I have to say that linksys has the highest quality, most durable modems I've ever used. I've had my modem for about 2 years now running nearly 24/7. And it's still going! It works perfectly with my wired linksys 4 port router. The label on it claims that you can use either an ethernet cable or a USB cable to connect to the internet, but I've never tried the USB feature... The only problem I've ever had with is that when I switch the ethernet line from the modem (when I don't have my router set up) between different computers, I need to unplug it and then hit the reset button on the back before changing the ethernet cable. I get an error saying my connection has "Limited or no connection". But other than that, I really like this modem. I would absolutely buy another one (If for some phenomenal reason, this one somehow breaks).
