Linksys Wireless G Broadband Router By Tink By Tink on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
I just bought this Linksys Router today after work. My old router, a Belkin, decided enough was enough. It was a loyal friend for over 6 years and its time had come to an end. I looked here at Shared for reviews on routers and I asked my friend Froggy for advice. She was the reason I bought this brand.
Walmart had the best price. I picked it up on the way home from work. I must be honest about the set up. It took me three tries to actually get it to recognize my router. On the third try, I was just about to call tech support. They also have "An Expert in a Box" which is the Linksys EasyLink Advisor. You can use this if you have XP or Vista. It's not available for you if your system is Windows 2000. I guess it heard me and decided to play nice!
The set up was easy. First you need to run the cd. Next instructions are given on how and when to connect the electrical plug and the ethernet cables. If you try and hook things up in the wrong order...you won't be successful in setting up the router. It then goes through the process of setting up the network for your wireless connection. After I had that all set on my computer, I turned on my laptop. It said that if you have an extra ethernet cable that it would be the easiest way to set it up. So I connected the cable to my laptop and within minutes it was working!!! Then I disconnected the cable to the laptop and the set up was complete.
When I first had problems setting it up, I returned to the product description and requirements for running this router. I thought maybe I had bought the wrong product for my operating system. (I really should read the box before I buy things!)
Minimum Requirements
IE 6.0 or Firefox 1.0
CD-ROM Drive
Windows 2000, XP or Vista (mine is XP)
Network adapter or wireless network adapter
The Features
4 Port Switch
54Mbps Wireless-G (802.11g) access point
Shares an internet connection with Ethernet wired and Wireless-G and -B devices
High Security, Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA2)
Wireless MAC address filtering
A Powerful SPI firewall
The dimensions of my router are 7.31" x 1.88" x 6.16", so it fits perfectly on my desk shelf. I really like the blue color (see pic), my old router was just plain grey.
This is a great and inexpensive way to share a high speed internet connection with the whole family, or in my case, with my hubby!
Linksys WRT54G Purchased at: Walmart Price: $50.00

I have a Linksys router too, and have had no problems with it. The support seems to be decent too if you have questions.
I'm happy to see you up band running my friend. I have used Linksys off and on for years. The SPI (Stateful Packet Inspection) firewall is a real security layer for your machine. They can be tricky to initially set up, but overall once you're connected they perform flawlessly. If you know a good computer guy, you can have him customize your firewall settings, though for most people it does well with its factory set.
I use a Linksys and it has been a great router for me so far.
Something to remember for the next time I am at Walmart. We have been meaning to get one of these too.
This is my router!! I love it & have never had any problems with it
We used one of these at my old job and now have one here at home. Works great, hardly any down time at all.
I love heard so much good things about Linksys. Will keep this in mind if I ever need to change my present router.
These are good routers. Its the one I use.
I love Linksys routers they are very easy to use and their customer service is very helpful.
Lynksys is a excellent brand from what I've heard time and time again, thanks for sharing your experience!
