Linksys Wrt54 G Wireless Router By Kilraven By Kilraven on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
My wife and I needed a reliable wireless setup for our Nintendo Wii and DS to play online. After speaking with various friends and their different wireless routers, we decided to give Linksys a try - a good choice thus far.
The setup is easy, with software included that gives you two options: setup manually or answer the software's questions and allow it to setup for you. I did the manual install, however, I suggested for my in-laws they do the automated setup which worked well for them. On a quick side note, the router defaults to channel 6 and I suggest to change that during setup.
As for placement and range, I have no complaints. I've used this in two seperate apartments in various locations with no deadzones. I've had a strong signal from over 50 feet and going through multiple floors and walls in a tri-level apartment building.
Its MSRP is $69.99, however, many stores tend to have it at a permanent sale price of $49.99. This puts it in the upper-low, lower-middle price range among wireless router. While I have found a few router seemed to run slightly better than the WRT54G, their higher price didn't seem viable to my needs. I do feel the $49.99 price tag is slightly high, given the recent influx of rev. n wireless routers, the WRT54G still seems to give more bang for the buck in the b/g wireless router class.
I highly recommend this router to anyone looking for a great, reliable router for a reasonable price.
