What a disappointment this product is! The Littermaid Elite Max is a self cleaning litter box for cats. This Elite Max is the higher end of the self cleaning boxes that Littermaid makes. I purchased it because we have 3 cats. This product was supposed to handle a multiple cat household. Well, I'm here to tell you, it doesn't! The premise of never having to clean the litter box again is also false. The way the product works is this...You pour premium scoopable litter into the box. The cat uses the box, the rake passes through the litter and dumps the waste into a recepticle. Sounds easy enough. Well, for us, we found that the rake doesn't always work. It gets bogged down or it misses waste. At that point, the urine cakes to the bottom of the box and must be washed. So much for not having to clean the box. Perhaps if you only have one or two cats, at the most, this will work well for you. I think it is an awful lot of money to spend to be disappointed. I would not buy it if I had it to do over.

I think you have hit the nail on the head about having multiple cats being the problem. I, too, had this litter box. With one cat it worked great, with three it struggled.
