LL Bean has been creating quality outdoor gear, and wear for years. These skates are the best that I have used and are a favorite in the family. Each of the kids have the boys skates - and I have the Womens. They look like shoes, with blades! They are warm and comfortable - and nowhere close to the plastic skates that have been available in previous years. The lining is cozy on your foot, but I like to wear thick socks in the winter so I suggest ordering a size larger. This is important! You may choose to order a size larger regardless because they seem to fit good - but tight - than again, skates are meant to be tight I suppose. If you do not feel that the ties look like enough support than worry no more because the ankle strap is strong, and has never come undone! A comfortable, and warm skate! The only one I will ever use!
